MerchantCircle übernimmt Bloglines

Nach den zahlreichen Verlängerungen hat es sich angedeutet: der Feedreader “Bloglines” bleibt zunächst auch bis zum 1. Dezember 2010 in Betrieb, um dann anscheinend von einem anderen Betreiber übernommen zu werden. So ließt man derzeit in seinem Bloglines-Account:

“We’re happy to announce that Ask.com has entered into an agreement with MerchantCircle to keep Bloglines up and running! That means your news feeds will remain available (with your same password) indefinitely. Ask.com will maintain the current Bloglines service as-is until at least December 1, 2010 after which the service will transition wholly to MerchantCircle.”

Und auch für die Zeit danach sieht es so aus, als würde der Dienst weitergeführt. Und zwar von “MerchantCircle”, die in ihrem Blog schreiben, dass sie Bloglines von Ask.com übernommen hätten:

“Ask.com, which has owned the property for the last few years, had decided to retire the service to focus more on its core offerings. This provided a wonderful opportunity for MerchantCircle to acquire the operations to reinvest in the platform and enhance it for its 2.7 million users. […] you will soon see Bloglines integrated for your use on your account dashboards. From there you will have the ability to organize and follow online information about your business, your community and your industry.”

Mal sehen, was daraus wird. Ich bin zumindest vorerst erleichtert.

Nachtrag (09.Nov 2010):

Das RSS-Reader-Geschäft ist wohl noch lebendig und es gibt anscheinend noch einige ernsthafte Anbieter. Trotzdem erstaunlich, dass es so wenige sind und man zuletzt bei Bloglines fürchten musste, dass sie sich aus dem Geschäft zurück ziehen.
